This week students had to write in their Journals to answer one of the following questions: What did you think of the Musical?, What did you learn from the Musical? or What was your favorite part of the Musical? After writing and editing their Journal entries, students were eager to share their ideas. So how did the students answer ? Turn up your volume and watch the Voice Thread to find out!

Under the guidance of music teacher, Mrs. Parnas, four kindergarten classes at Creek View Elementary participated in the musical, "Barnyard Moosical." Students spent time in music class and in our class learning the songs, dances, and speaking parts of the musical. The musical was a huge success and would not have been pulled off without the collaborative efforts of Mrs. Parnas, kindergarten staff members, our kindergarten students, and kindergarten parent volunteers. Thank you to everyone and please enjoy the Funky Funky Chicken song from Tricia Fox on Vimeo. In 1980 Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner developed the Theory of Multiple intelligences. He believed that people learn in many different ways and that teachers need to recognize this and teach with the multiple intelligences in mind. Educators today work toward meeting the needs of students who learn in one or more of these ways: -Linguistic (the ability to use spoken and written language) -Logical-mathematical (being able to analyze problems logically, do math, and conduct scientific investigations -Bodily-kinesthetic (using one's body to solve problems) -Spatial (recognizing and using spatial patters) -Musical (recognizing musical patterns, as well as performance and composition skills) -Naturalist (being able to recognize features in the environment, categorize them, and draw conclusions from them) -Interpersonal (the ability to understand and work with other people) -Intrapersonal (self-awareness and the ability to use this awareness to regulate one's life) As educators we understand that students (and adults!) learn in different ways and we strive to meet the needs of all of our students. Participating in the musical helped me to meet the needs of my students who learn best musically aor bodily-kinesthetically. The Barnyard Moosical was a huge success; one that will surely be remembered by the students for a long time. Thank you to all of the students, parents and staff members who helped support the program. Keep checking the blog for pictures, videos, and comments from the students about their performance.
