This morning we did our morning work on short vowel sounds.  We did calendar and Saturday was Kelsey's birthday.  There are 5 more days left in February.  During writing we were given a squiggly line and had to make a picture out of it.  We like making our own pictures and writing about them.  In math we played with pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and made amounts with them.  People came in a we got a compliment from them.  We also got a compliment from Mr. Hunter in art.  We read a Weekly Reader about how old the penny is.  During centers some of us played a new game with a cash register.

This morning we unpacked and we all got to put on hats!  During calendar we learned that tomorrow is Kelsey’s birthday!   We read a story about caps and we were the monkeys when we acted it out.  Then we did the Dragon Dance on our purple places on the purple carpet.  Mrs. Fox gave us a paper with a line on it and we had to create a picture out of the line.  Mikey made an alligator, Gavin made a parking lot, Cody made a car with thirteen wheels, and Joshua made a road out of the lines.  We wrote about the picture we made.  We went to lunch and had cupcakes.  After lunch we did math and worked with coins.  Mrs. Allen came in and told us about warm fuzzies and cold prickles.  We went to the library and almost everyone got to choose a new book.  We did centers then Mrs. Umusu came in and we made masks and ate another cupcake!

Thanks to Jordan, Gavin, and Cody who all worked so hard writing Blogs today.  Unfortunately, errors kept popping up and making the computer freeze so we lost their work.  This is the second time this has happened this week, so lesson learned: create Blog entries in Word first, then post the finished work on-line.
We had a very good day today and continue to earn many compliments for our class behavior in the hallway and in specials classes.  When we receive a compliment (a praise from someone that we don't ask for) from another teacher or principal, we record it on an apple and hang it on a tree.  We work together as a team to receive these whole class compliments!
Keep up the great work and I hope to see lots of students wearing hats tomorrow : )

Thanks to all parents and students for helping make the Valentine Party a huge success!  The students enjoyed decorating their boxes and were so proud of their Valentines.
We had a busy day today!  This morning we read a funny story called Duck For President and students shared about what they did over President's Day  weekend.  In language arts we read stories, did an activity to review telling and asking sentences, and wrote a letter or two-letter consonant blend to fill in the missing medial sounds in words.  Students are often able to write the beginning and ending sounds of two syllable words, but sometimes leave out all or some of the sounds in the middle.  This activity is to help make the students aware of the importance in writing a letter for each sound they hear when they are sounding out and writing a word.
In math we used paper number lines to determine whether a number is closer to 5 or 10, or 10 or 20.  For example, if students were given the number 7, students discovered 7 is two greater than 5 and three less than 10.  So 7 is closer to 5.
Last week we learned about Abraham Lincoln and this week we are going to study George Washington.  Students shared what they already knew about Mr. Washington and we started making a list of facts about him.  We will continue to read stories and look at pictures to learn more.  Near the end of the week we will compare the two presidents to see if they are similar or different in any ways.
Dinner discussion... What number is in the middle of 10 and 20?

We did our morning work and did calendar.  In language arts we read more books, unscrambled the sentences in a story, and made pictures out of paper hearts.  In math we wrote our own subtraction story problems.  We went to lunch then we did centers.  Mrs. Fox read us Valentine's Day stories.  We wrote about "love" and our writing is hanging on the back bulletin board.  You should check it out when you come to the Party tomorrow!  Our class Valentine Party is tomorrow from 11:30-12:30.   We went to P.E.  We got packed up and had snack.   We played "Nice Man."

(Dictated to Mrs. Fox)  -See you tomorrow!

My plan is for this blog to have many authors- each child in the class!  The children will take turns being daily news reporters and photographers.  They will post their work during Center Time and at the end of the day.  My hope is that families will use these posts to talk about school with their children and help develop the important connection between home and school.  I encourage parents and children to respond to the blog or Dinner Discussions by adding a comment or emailing me.  Have fun and I hope this opens a window into our world at Creek View!
